2010 Wedding Album of European Royals

Royal Weddings invigorate the monarchy and often dominate the landscape of European royalty, the ancient ritual of pomp and pageantry of fairytale with prancing horses, drawn carriages, muffled guns and sparkling tiaras stirred emotions among the adoring subjects.

This  fascination towards fairytale is once again felt when two members of the European royalty took a trip down-the-aisle separately this year. Princess Victoria, the heiress to the Swedish throne weds her long time boyfriend, gym owner, Daniel Westling last June 19, 2010, while Prince Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark weds Tatiana Blatnik, an event organizer of fashion house Diana Forsberg, last August 25, 2010.

Princess Victoria's wedding

On June 19, 2010, the heir-apparent of King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden, Princess Victoria, said "I do" to her commoner boyfriend, Daniel Westling, though the groom is not an aristocrat nor a member of any European royal houses, he was approved by the Swedish parliament as Victoria's suitable husband.

Their wedding was largely attended by all European royals in the world donning on with their royal regalia. The Princess herself was radiant in her ivory flowing gown designed by Pang Engsheden with a family tiara holding her veil. The wedding was held at the Stockholm Cathedral at mid-morning.

The future Queen of Sweden wore an elegant creation of Pang Engsheden, an ivory duchess satin with a v-shaped back and round semi-scallop neck with a five meter train attached at the waist. The grand wedding ceremony drew crowds from different walks of life, commoners mixing with royalty, people lined up the street for hours waiting to catch a glimpse of the Princess who was transported in a black sedan.

Prince Nikolaos' wedding

Though King Constantine II was forced to abdicate and lived in exile since 1967, the Greek royal family retained their prize standing position in the European monarchy circuit because being royal is their birthright. This exalted existence was more pronounced during the wedding of Constantine's second son, Prince Nikolaos. Members of the European royalty flocked to the beautiful island of Spetses, some miles from Athens to witness this joyous celebration of marital union.

Upon marriage, Blatnik assumed the title Her Royal Highness Princess Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark. But unlike Princess Victoria's husband, Tatiana comes from a distinguished aristocratic family. Her grandmother is a German Countess and a descendant of King George II of Great Britain.

Their royal guests:

Style, glamor and fashion dominate the royal weddings as guests donned their finest royal wardrobe. Victoria and Nikolaos are both descendants of King Christian IX of Denmark and Queen Victoria of England, no wonder they have the same set of royal guests.

At Nikolaos' wedding:

Prince Nikolaos Wedding at the beautiful island of Spetses in Greece was well attended by all members of the European royals because his parents are both descended from the existing European royal houses. But unlike Princess Victoria's wedding, the royal guests did not wear their royal regalia because the Greek royal family did not reign anymore. Nevertheless, the wedding ceremony was still celebrated in accordance with royal tradition and protocol complete with drawn carriages.
