The Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren of the Queen and Prince Philip Named After Them

Today, The Royal Family published a statement announcing the name of the newly-born daughter of Princess Beatrice. 

It was revealed the princess and her Italian aristocrat husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi named her Sienna Elizabeth. She was born on September 18, 2021.

By choosing such name, the 11th in line to the throne became the 5th great-granddaughter of the Queen to be named after her.

While ordinary citizens never bother too much about choosing the names for their kids, it's always a different story for the royal family because it would be soon part of the history, thus, names must be in accordance with the tradition.

And for the British royal family, the Queen must be notified first with the choice of the name before it will be announced in public.

The Queen and Prince Philip

Customarily, couples often named their kids after grandparents. For the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh this case proved true.

They have eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, four of whom didn't have a chance to meet their great-grandpa.

Here are the royal grandchildren and great-grandchildren named after the Queen and Prince Philip.

Elizabeth

1. Zara Anne Elizabeth. 

Zara Phillips-Tindall was born on May 15, 1981, she is the only daughter of Princess Anne and her first husband, Mark Phillips. 

Zara's first name was chosen by her uncle, Prince Charles. She is the Queen and Prince Philip's first granddaughter.

2. Beatrice Elizabeth Mary

Princess Beatrice was born on August 8, 1988. Not just one name of the Queen but two names - Elizabeth Mary. The real name of the Queen is Alexandra Elizabeth Mary.

3. Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary

Born on November 8, 2003, the Queen's youngest granddaughter also took two of her three names. Alice is in honor of Prince Philip's mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg.

4. Isla Elizabeth Phillips

Born on May 29, 2012, Isla is the second daughter of Peter Phillips and his Canadian-born wife, Autumn Kelly.

5. Charlotte Elizabeth Diana

The second child of Prince William, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge's last two names are tributes to her paternal great-grandmother and grandmother, the Queen and Princess Diana, respectively. She was born on May 2. 2015. 

6. Lena Elizabeth Tindall

Born on June 18, 2018, Lena is the second daughter of Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall. Lena name was the last minute change as revealed in the news.

Zara and her husband wanted to name her Elena Elizabeth but realized they don't want their daughter to be known with the initial of E.T so they removed the "E" at the last minute.

7. Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor

Born on June 4, 2021 in California, Prince Harry's second child created quite a controversy as her entrance to the world due to her first name.

Others criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for using the nickname of the Queen for their daughter's first name because it's special to the Queen and only closest family members addressed her with such name.

8. Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi

The latest addition to the royal family is named after the historic town in Italy, where Edo was believed to have proposed marriage to Princess Beatrice in 2019. The second name is in honor of the Queen.

Philip

1. William Arthur Philip Louis

Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge born on June 21, 1982, has four names with significance.

William is in honor of William I, the Conqueror, Arthur is for the legendary British king, Philip is in honor of his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, and Louis for Lord Mountbatten, the uncle of Prince Philip who was assassinated in 1979.

2. James Alexander Philip Theo

James, Viscount Severn, born on December 17, 2007, is the second child of the Earl and Countess of Wessex. He is also the youngest grandson of the Queen and Prince Philip.

3. August Philip Hawke Brooksbank

Born on February 9, 2021, August is the first-born child of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. He was born at a time Prince Philip was brought to the hospital due to a recurring illness.

4. Lucas Philip Tindall

Born on March 21, 2021, Lucas Philip is the third child and eldest son of Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall. He is currently 24th in the line of succession to the British throne.

Prince Philip died on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99. Four of his great-grandchildren he never got to meet are the following: August Brooksbank, Lucas Tindall, Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor and Sienna Mapelli Mozzi.

Due to these latest royal births, the succession line had a massive makeover this year, with lower ranks went down three notches.
