Prince Nikolaos of Greece Marries Chrysí Vardinogianni Less Than a Year After Her Split From Tatiana Blatnik

Prince Nikolaos of Greece wedding

We have not gotten over  Prince Nikolaos of Greece's split from Princess Tatiana in April 2024, but as if our shock over their surprised separation was not enough, the Prince announced his engagement to Chrysí Vardinogianni in January, and alas! Their wedding was going to take place two weeks later. Why do they seem to be in a hurry? 😄

In April 2024, Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana, who wed in August 2010, surprised royal fans when they announced their divorce after more than 13 years of marriage. We are surprised with the announcement because we always thought their marriage was one of the most stable marriages in European royalty. Their last public appearance was in February 2024 at the memorial service of the late King Constantine II at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, UK.

Life is full of surprises indeed.

On February 7, 2025, Prince Nikolaos walked down the aisle again. Hope the union is for keeps. The bride, Chrysí  Vardinogianni, 12 years younger than Prince Nikolaos, is said to be the daughter of a Greek ship owner. She was previously married to singer Stefanos Xypolitas with whom she had two children. Chrysi and Stefanos were married between 2012 to 2017. She started a relationship with film director Konstantinos Markoulakis and split in December 2023, just four months after Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana announced their separation.

On Friday, February 7, Chrysí arrived with her father Giorgos Vardinogiannis, and her son. She wore a silhouette wedding dress designed by Christos Costarellos, featuring a round neckline with transparent elements, lace sleeves, and intricate beading on the bodice and skirt. Her veil was held in place by the Antigue Corsage Tiara loaned to her by Queen Anne-Marie.

All of Queen Anne-Marie’s daughters-in-law wore her Antique Corsage Tiara: Marie-Chantal Miller, Nina Flohr, and Prince Nikolaos' first wife, Tatiana Blatnik. This tiara was an 18th birthday present to Queen Anne-Marie from her parents, Queen Ingrid and King Frederik IX of Denmark.

The religious wedding was held at the Holy Church of St. Nicholas Ragavas, the oldest church in Athens, Greece. It was a private affair with just close friends and relatives attending the event. The royals who attended apart from the groom's mother, Queen Anne-Marie, were the groom's siblings, Crown Prince Pavlos, his wife Marie-Chantal and their two sons Princes Constantine-Alexios and Aristides-Stavros, Princess Alexia with her husband and two daughters, and Princess Theodora with her husband. The groom's youngest brother, Prince Philippos, and his wife Nina, did not attend.

His cousins Infanta Cristina of Spain, Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittengestien-Berleburg, Prince Gustav and his wife, Carina, also attended. Princess Alexandra of Greece (daughter of the late Prince Michael) and his mother, Marina, were also there.

Royal Title:

After the wedding, royal fans were eager to find out what is the title of the new wife of Prince Nikolaos, his ex-wife, Tatiana was made a princess by his later father, King Constantine II, and the title was not revoked after the divorce was finalized in 2024.

Greek royal family tree

However, in the latest update of the former Greek royal family's website, Chrysi Vardinogianni was not referred to as a princess, unlike the two daughters-in-law of Queen Anne-Marie, Marie-Chantal and Nina who are referred to as princesses.

Maybe it's a personal choice of Prince Nikolaos (who preferred to be called Nikolaos De Grèce after the Greek government reinstated the Greek citizenship to 10 family members of the former Greek royals) and Chrysi herself.
