According to the Danish royal house's Instagram post, Australian-born Queen Consort of Denmark, Mary, wears a gold tiara that has not been worn in 140 years. During a state banquet in Helsinki for the first state visit of King Frederik X and Queen Mary, the queen was a head-turner in her beautiful gown.
However, it was the antique headpiece that made her look gorgeous that evening. The gold tiara was first created for Queen Caroline Amalie, the wife of King Christian VIII of Denmark, and the gems were personally chosen by the King during their travel to Italy.

The tiara, which appeared more like a bandeau, has a design similar to the old Roman jewelry pieces with colorful gem stones engraved on the piece. After Queen Caroline Amalie, no Danish royals had ever worn the tiara, not even Queen Margrethe II who was fond of using bandeaus during her long reign. This was kept on display with other pieces in the royal collection.
Another jewelry piece worn by Queen Mary that evening, which has not been seen in public worn by Danish royals in over a century is the gold bracelet. It was made for Princess Vilhelmine Marie, of Denmark, the daughter of King Frederik VI of Denmark. The bracelet was given to the princess by her first husband, the future King Frederik VII, shortly before their wedding, in a box inscribed with the phrase (in French) “It is from the summit of the flaming Vesuvius that my heart flies to you. April 24, 1828.”

Queen Mary perhaps wanted to put into use all the precious jewels in the Danish jewelry collection, including the pieces that were not worn by her predecessors, including her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe II. So instead of just putting it on display, Queen Mary prefers to showcase it to the public to show its importance and historical significance.
In 2024, she also converted a diamond necklace into a bandeau and debuted it on December 6, 2024, for the state banquet for the visiting Egyptian president. Queen Mary looked glamorous in the said rose-cut diamond jewelry. According to the description from the Danish royal house, "The rose stone set was created in 1840 as a chain that is mounted around a corseted waist with the large pendant, the corsage, in the middle. The pendant can be divided and used separately as independent brooches."
