Princess Anne and Duchess of Cornwall Coordinated in Style At The Braemar Games

British royals attend Braemer games 2022

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, who is known in Scotland as the Duke of Rothesay, represented his mother, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, at the Braemar Games. Prince Charles spearheaded the opening of the traditional Highland Games on Saturday, September 3.

Prince Charles was supported by his wife, Camilla, known as the Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, his sister, Princess Anne, and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence.

The Princess Royal and The Duchess of Rothesay coordinated in style during the event, wearing similar details of wardrobe, the military tartan green pattern with red details.

Camilla wore a green coat dress with button details, which she accessorized with a matching green hat. While Princess Anne wore a red hat that matched her inner top and the button of her blazer.

The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay also opened The Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Archway during the festival and also presented awards.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II missed this year's Highland Games due to her ongoing mobility issues. The Queen, who is currently staying at the nearby Balmoral estate, missed attending her much-loved Scottish event for the first time in her 70-year reign.

The Queen and Prince Philip regularly attended Braemar Games

The Queen regularly attended the Highland Games with Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and always enjoyed the spectacle. They haven't missed attending the event because the Braemar Gathering coincided with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh's summer break in Balmoral.

This year, as Her Majesty battles physical discomfort, the Braemar Gathering organizers and the Royal Household came up with a solution to let her watch the event while staying in Balmoral.

Thus, for the first time in the event’s history, the Highland Games were live-streamed so that Her Majesty can catch up on the exciting games online.

The Highland Games

The Highland Games, also known as the Braemar Games, is an annual sports gathering in Scotland. The games are the most attended highland games in Scotland as athletes compete in the traditional highland events, the highland dancers, and Scotland's best pipe bands.

Other fun events are the children's sack race and the tug-of-war competition. At the end of the games, the Queen traditionally presents the cups and shields. This year, however, the task has been assumed by Prince Charles.

The Braemar Gathering takes place every year on the first Saturday of September. It draws crowds from other parts of the world, and traditionally attended by members of the British royal family.

The games are usually held at the Highland Games Centre in Braemar, which is situated in the heart of the outstanding landscape of the Cairngorms National Park, in the highest and most mountainous parish in the United Kingdom. It's just a few miles away from The Queen's Balmoral estate.

Braemar is one of the most picturesque areas in the United Kingdom. It is beautifully surrounded by imposing mountains, heather moorland, pine, and birchwood, spanning across the rocky gorge of the Clunie water.

Braemar is an artist's haven. Its stunning scenery and refreshing mountain air have attracted tourists for generations, especially those who enjoyed outdoor pursuits, such as hiking, walking, climbing, wildlife watching, cycling, canoeing, and fishing.

Braemar is situated on the tourist route from Perth to Aberdeen, which climbs over the Cairnwell Pass, the highest through road in the country and follows the River Dee along its picturesque valley.

Just recently, it is named one of the best places to live in Scotland by a new guide, according to Aberdeenshire Live. Braemar is one of seven Scottish locations featured in this year's Sunday Times Best Places To Live list, which includes 70 places across the UK.

Prince Charles and Princess Anne

Prince Charles and Princess Anne, who are close since their childhood years, have been at the forefront of royal duties since the Queen suffered mobility issues. They are increasingly taking loads of public engagements to represent their mother.

Her Majesty decreased her public appearances since October 2021 due to discomfort and mobility issues. And most of her royal tasks were taken by other working members of the royal family. However, the large portion of royal duties of the Queen were taken over by her two elder children, the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal.

It's nice to see Prince Charles and Princess Anne joined forces in many public events, representing their mother. We admire their closeness since childhood. They are our original siblings goals.
