The eight-year-old twins of Albert II, the Sovereign Prince of Monaco, and Princess Charlene stole the show during the burning of a fishing boat event on the eve of January 26.

It was part of the Saint Devote festivities, the first major public event in Monaco of the year. Saint Devote is the Patron Saint of the Principality of Monaco and the festivities are usually attended by the Princely family.

This year, however, only Princess Charlene and her twins attended the festivities, as Prince Albert was isolating after catching COVID-19 for the third time. They were accompanied by Melanie de Massy, Prince Albert's cousin.

The burning of the boat during Saint Devote festivities in Monaco had something to do with the history of how Devota, a young Christian woman from Corsica, was brought to Monaco.

Legend has it that during the third century AD, Devota was martyred by anti-Christians. After she died, a group of believers took her body and placed in a boat and brought to Monaco to be buried in a chapel.

Saint Devote became Monaco's Patron Saint in the 17th century during the reign of Prince Honore II.
