Here's Why Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex Won't Attend King Charles Coronation

A month ago, Buckingham Palace confirmed the attendance of the King's son, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex to the Coronation Ceremony, but without his wife, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.

In a statement released, Buckingham Palace said "We are pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6th. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."

The confirmation that Meghan Markle would not be attending the Coronation of King Charles drew mixed reactions from royal enthusiasts.

Most World Leaders will attend, even those who are not close to the Royal Family will be there. But why a daughter-in-law prefers to stay behind in another continent?

Royal analysts shared opinions on what could be the real reason on Meghan's refusal to take part in the celebration. Was it her own decision not to attend the historic event? Or was she being told not to come to the UK during the event?

We are not certain.

But her decision to miss this significant event drew flak from royal enthusiasts who criticized her for being disrespectful and ungrateful to her father-in-law.

Most comments say the Duchess of Sussex is dishonoring the man who saved her from embarrassment when her father, Thomas Markle, became involved in a paparazzi controversy days before her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

It was the King, who was still the Prince of Wales, who walked Meghan Markle down the aisle after her father, Thomas Markle, left England before the wedding day due to the controversies of his fake paparazzi photo.

Royal insider said the Royal Family, especially Prince Charles at that time was reeling from international embarrassment due to the controversy, but they said nothing and accepted Meghan to their circle.

Others commented:

"World leaders and people who are not close to the King are coming to the Coronation to share this joyous and rare event in British history, and yet his own daughter-in-law snub the event?"

"It's Charles who saved her during her wedding when her own father did some embarrassment act and yet she cannot honor the King on his Coronation?"

And so on...

We really did not know what is the real reason behind the Duchess of Sussex's decision not to attend the Coronation but a friend close to her revealed to People magazine:

"Meghan wants to be there to support her father-in-law, but at the same time, the scrutiny she receives outweighs the support. There's always going to be that other side challenging their reasoning, and who wants to put themselves in that position?"

"At this point, it's become so personal," the friend said elsewhere in the interview. "Maybe what they wanted wasn't achieved, but at the end of the day, he's going there to support his dad."

The birthday of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's eldest, Prince Archie, also falls on the same day of the coronation, which could've also impacted Meghan's decision to stay home in California with their children.

According to People, "Those closest to the couple know that the media backlash Meghan faced in the U.K. during Queen Elizabeth's funeral last year — and in the seven months since — played a significant role in her decision not to come."

There are also reports surfacing in the media that Meghan Markle wrote her father-in-law a letter following the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, to address the racism in the Royal Family. It's not known if King Charles III responded.

Buckingham Palace refused to comment but other media outlets confirmed there were letters that the Duchess of Sussex sent to the King in 2021.

According to Page Six, a source told them that "Yes, there was correspondence, there were letters back and forth from the Duchess of Sussex to the king."

"But she's moved on, this was two years ago, it has nothing to do with her decision not to attend the coronation," the source stressed.

The last time Meghan was seen with the Royal Family was during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

The King's Coronation is historic and unique in the world as there's no other monarchs in history to ever have a Coronation Ceremony.
