King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium hosted a garden party in the beautiful garden of the Royal Palace of Laeken to celebrate a significant milestone in his reign, the 10th anniversary of his accession to the Belgian throne.
On July 21, 2013, his father, King Albert II of Belgium abdicated the throne due to health reasons. It coincided with Belgium's National Day celebration.
Ahead of the exact date of his 10th year anniversary, King Philippe organized a garden party on May 13, inviting 600 guests from different organizations and government agencies in Belgium to take part in the celebration.
Three of his four children: Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel, and Princess Eleonore attended the event together with his younger sister, Princess Astrid, and her husband Prince Lorenz, Archduke of Austria-Este.Â

The Garden Party marked the rare moment when the Belgian royal family allows the public to take a look at the beautifully-manicured lawn and the stunning surroundings of this royal residence.Â
The King's heir, Princess Elisabeth, who accompanied him to King Charles's pre-coronation reception, was not seen during the event. The Duchess of Brabant is still attending classes in England.
