Their Majesties King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark hosted the first gala dinner at their residence in Amalienborg Palace since the king ascended to the Danish throne in January.

They hosted a reception called The Badge of Honor, for representatives of the Armed Forces, the Air Force, and the Emergency Management Board. The dinner was held in Frederick VIII's Palace in Amalienborg.

Her Majesty, Queen Margrethe, also attended the reception. Despite her voluntary abdication in January this year, the former monarch still carries public engagements. Her title remains the same without "II" as she is no longer the reigning monarch.

The tradition of the Badge of Honor Dinner began in 1953 when Queen Margrethe's father, King Frederik IX, established on his birthday, March 11, 1953, the Medal of Honor of the Armed Forces and Air Force as a parallel to the Navy's Medal of Honor.

The King and Queen were all smiles as they received guests and members of the Armed Forces. Queen Mary looked particularly elegant in a black gown with a military-style jacket, which she accessorized with diamond earrings and gold necklaces.

The royal couple remained unfazed by rumors about the King's secret rendezvous in Spain. Tabloids still fishing on the issue of infidelity despite the fact the woman involved in Spain threatened to sue the people spreading unfounded claims. The Danish royals remained silence on the issue.
