The wild rumors about King Frederik's secret rendezvous in Madrid, Spain, in October 2023, three months before he ascended to the Danish throne, just won't go away, and several media outlets and members of the public continue to put malice whenever her and Queen Mary are not taking joint public engagements.

It was the first time that the King and Queen boarded the royal yacht Dannebrog in King Frederik's reign, kickstarting the sailing season in Denmark. It also signaled the continuation of the tradition of Danish monarchs spending annual summer cruises aboard Dannebrog.

The Royal Yacht Dannebrog is an independent command administered by the Chief of HM The King’s Naval Household, who is a member of the Royal Court. Dannebrog’s full crew consists of 9 officers, 7 sergeants, 2 able seamen, 2nd class, and 36-39 conscripts, who are all specially selected from the Navy.

King Frederik X and Queen Mary then proceeded to Fredensborg Palace for a reception. Their Majesties were warmly welcomed by the community. King Frederik also delivered a short speech upon arrival.

Fredensborg Palace is often the setting for important events in the life of the Royal Family. It is here they celebrate weddings, silver wedding anniversaries and birthdays.

Fredensborg Palace Garden is one of Denmark’s largest Baroque gardens and was rearranged in the 1760s under Frederik V. A distinctive element in the garden is the main axis at Brede Allé, which originates from the palace’s garden hall.

On May 6, King Frederik X and Queen Mary will make their first official state visit to Sweden aboard the royal yacht.
