The First State Visit of a Spanish King to Sweden in 40 Years!

Spain's King Felipe VI and his wife, Queen Letezia, traveled to Sweden for a State Visit, November 24-25, 2021, through the invitation of King Carl XVI Gustav.

It was the first state visit of a Spanish monarch in 40 years!

However, it was not the first time the king visited Sweden. He and his wife attended the state wedding of Crown Princess Victoria in 2010 when he was still the Prince of Asturias.

Swedish royals welcomed the King and Queen of Spain

King Felipe VI and King Carl XVI Gustaf are blood related. They both descended from Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. King Carl's great-grandfather, Prince Charles Edward of Albany, great-grandmother, Crown Princess Margarita, and King Felipe's great-grandmother, Queen Victoria Eugenie, were first cousins.

The royal tour included a visit to Nobel Museum and Karolinska Institute.

Royal glamour

A state visit is incomplete without the glamour of female royals, as always. Queen Letezia was in her elegant form as she donned an autumn red Carolina Herrera dress and matching headband by Cherubina.

She kept herself warm by adding a layer of tan-colored cape style coat with fur trim neckline. She completed her stylish look with caramel stiletto heels and tan bag by Carolina Herrera.

Queen Silvia of Sweden showed her own style by wearing a vibrant purple dress, hat and mauve pair of heels.

The visit was highlighted by gala state banquet, which means, female royals will show up in the state dinner donning their glittery tiaras.

Queen Letezia brought with her the Spanish heirloom, Fleur-de-Lys tiara, which originally belonged to Queen Victoria Eugenie, the grandmother of King Juan Carlos.

Queen Silvia wore the Swedish Cameo tiara, which was worn by her daughter, Crown Princess Victoria to her 2010 wedding.

Crown Princess Victoria, on the other hand, wore the Aquamarine Kokoshnik tiara, the favorite piece of jewelry among the Swedish royals, she also opted to wear a floral pattern dress for the evening.
