Royals from different countries rarely performed a joint public engagement so it was lovely to see Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden went to Kenya for an official engagement.
Their Royal Highnesses were in Kenya to attend a series of engagements in connection to their roles in the United Nation Development Program (UNDP) as ambassadors.Â
The visit focused on the United Nation's campaign for sustainable development and a greener environment. They attended meetings with businessmen who saw opportunities in sustainable food production and green technology.

Their joint public engagement also reminded us that Sweden and Norway were once a single kingdom under the Swedish monarch. Only in 1905, that the two countries became separate nations ruled by separate monarchs.
Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Victoria are also close relatives who often spent a joint vacation together with their respective families.
During their visit, they toured Kenya where they were shown how things work in Kenya on issues related to waste management biodiversity conservation, economic development, and democracy issues.
Crown Princess Victoria delivered a speech during a reception in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, where she said, "I would like to emphasize the five P's of the 2030 Agenda: People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace, and Partnerships. While these are all valuable guiding principles for our continued work here in Kenya and globally, there remains no doubt that people are at the center of everything we want to achieve".
They also traveled to Kwale in southern Kenya where they were received by Governor Fatuma Achani. They were also informed about how local authorities are working to develop local democracy as well as the importance of sustainable development.
They also visited mangrove forests and the Mikoko Pamoja project which aims to preserve and replenish mangrove forests.
Their royal highnesses also met local businessmen, UNDP representatives, and employees, and were briefed on the project and the positive effects the mangrove forests brought to the local fishermen and employment opportunities in ecotourism.Â
They also attended a bilateral meeting in Nairobi with Kenya's Vice President, Rigathi Gachagua. They then proceeded to a business seminar organized by Business Sweden and Innovation Norway.

Crown Princess Victoria also visited the Lewa Nature Reserve in northern Kenya. She got to meet representatives from the Northern Rangelands Trust, an organization supported by the Swedish government to meet the challenges of the impact of the drought in Kenya.
