The Prince and Princess of Wales are currently in Boston, Massachusetts for a three-day visit. They will be attending a series of events, including the second Earthshot Prize Awards to be held on December 2, 2022, Friday.
On November 30, 2022, the couple touched down at the Logan International Airport in Boston. They were greeted by the Governor of Massachusetts, Charlie Baker, upon arrival.

This is the first overseas trip made by the couple since assuming new roles as the Prince and Princess of Wales upon the accession of King Charles III to the British throne. And their first overseas trip together since their Caribbean tour in March this year.
Catherine looked casually chic in a matching outfit of aubergine trousers, a blazer, and a turtle neck top, from Alexander McQueen, which she paired with a pair of navy suede pumps from Gianvito Rossi. She also wore a pair of sapphire earrings of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.Â

Later in the day, they were honored in a welcome ceremony at the City Hall by Boston Mayor, Michelle Wu. Catherine wore another Alexander McQueen outfit - a Green coat and Tartan dress, Rebecca Green Pumps from Emmy London, and carried a Mulberry England Green handbag.Â

Their activities in Boston will be highlighted by attending meetings and events related to the city's sustainability projects in three days.
The Earthshot Prize
This year will be the second time that the Earthshot Prize Awards will be held. And Boston was chosen by Prince William since it's where former US President John F. Kennedy was born.Â
The Prince of Wales admitted in 2019 that he was inspired by the Moonshot dream of President John F, Kennedy in 1962 of sending humans to the moon (which was only realized in 1969, six years after Kennedy was assassinated), to establish the same dream, this time, to find solutions to mitigate climate change.Â

He also emphasized that he was inspired by the environmental works of his grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, his father, Prince Charles, and broadcaster, David Attenborough. Thus, he conceived the "Earthshot" to raise awareness of the world's environmental problems and how everyone can help "fix our planet".
Prince William announced in 2019 that the Earthshot Prize will be given to five individuals or organizations who/that provided impactful and sustainable solutions for Earth's environmental problems.Â
In 2020, he formally launched the Earthshot Prize with David Attenborough. The first awarding ceremony was held in 2021 in London. The awards will run between 2021 to 2030.
In July 2022, it was announced that after being a part of The Royal Foundation for two years, the Earthshot Prize became an independent charity.
The Earthshot Prize is awarded to five winners each year for their contributions to environmentalism. Each winner will receive a grant of £1 million to continue their environmental work.Â
The five categories were inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals: The restoration and protection of nature, air cleanliness, ocean revival, waste-free living, and climate action.
The Earthshot Prize was designed to find and grow the solutions that will repair our planet this decade. We face our greatest challenge; to regenerate the place we all call home in the next ten years.
This year's edition in Boston is in partnership with the John F. Kennedy Foundation and the ceremony will be held at the MGM Music Hall on December 2, Friday.
