The King and The Four Working Royals Unite In Buckingham Palace

His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace for the medal winners of Team Great Britain during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, and the Paralympic Olympics in both Olympic events.

To celebrate the achievements of these athletes, His Majesty was supported by his wife, Camilla The Queen Consort, his only sister, Princess Anne, President of Team Great Britain, his brother, Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, Patron of Paralympics GB, and his uncle, Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester.

This rare photo where the monarch is surrounded by four of the 10 working royals of the House of Windsor, says a lot, according to royal analysts. It helped visualize the king's intention to keep the 10 working royals to support his reign and to have State Counselors who are working royals.

The current members of Charles III's Council of State are:

  • The Queen Consort
  • The Prince of Wales
  • The Duke of Sussex
  • The Duke of York
  • Princess Beatrice
Only two are working royals and the king expressed his wishes to spare the three non-working royals from the obligations for the state to act as his "stand-ins" when he is out of the country. Given the fact that the above royal family members will stay as his Counselors, in case he, his wife, and his heir are out of the country, the monarch's stand-in is Prince Andrew!

However, Charles III can't just do the changes by himself as the Council of State is governed by the law, The Regency Act of 1937, which requires parliamentary approvals. He may seek the parliament to amend the rules but cannot change it by himself.

Should the parliament approve the king's request, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew, and Princess Beatrice will be replaced by the three working royals next in the line of succession who are adults: The Princess Royal, The Earl of Wessex, and The Duke of Gloucester.
