Their working visit is part of the historical interest of the Belgian Royal Family in ancient Egypt. The visit also marks the 100th anniversary of the visit of Queen Elisabeth (1876-1965) to Egypt in 1923.

King Philippe's great-grandmother had a special interest and passion for the origin of the flourishing of Egyptology in Belgium.

On the first day of their working visit, they attended the opening of an exhibition on Queen Elisabeth and Belgian Egyptology. They will also visit several places that Queen Elisabeth also visited on her missions in 1923, including Tutankhamun's tomb.

They will be shown around various sites in and around Luxor by Belgian Egyptologists, professors, and students.

Belgian Palace also noted that the Queen and the Duchess of Brabant stayed in the same hotel where Queen Elisabeth and Crown Prince Leopold (later Leopold III, the father of King Albert II of Belgium) stayed during their visit.
