Spanish Royals Attend The 2023 Princess of Girona Awards

On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, the Spanish Royal Family - Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, and Their Royal Highnesses The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia of Spain, attended the annual awarding ceremony of The Princess of Girona Awards in Girona, Spain. 

Princess of Girona is one of the official titles of Princess Leonor as King Felipe VI's heir-presumptive. Her primary title however is The Princess of Asturias.

This year is a significant year for The Princess of Girona Foundation as King Felipe VI will turn over the chairmanship of the foundation to his daughter, Princess Leonor, who will turn 18 this coming October. 

During this year's ceremony, Princess Leonor handed out the awards to the 2023 winners. They are María Dueñas (Arts and Literature), Rafel Jordà Siquier (Business), Silvia Fernández Cadevall (Social), Marc Schneeberger Pané (Scientific Research), and Sabrina Habib (International).

The Princess of Asturias also delivered a speech during the ceremony, emphasizing the youth's sense of responsibility and dedication to whatever role they will going to play in the society. 

She said: “I have just finished high school and I am about to start a new stage with a period of military training. And, beyond my responsibility, I am happy because I know how much the Spanish people value our Armed Forces. 

It is an important moment in my life and I feel very eager and convinced to continue learning and giving my best spirit to strengthen the values ​​with which I have grown and that today our five awardees embody: respect for others, effort, excellence, search for knowledge, temperance, discipline, perseverance. Also, the ability to perceive reality and live with the enthusiasm typical of my age.”

Princess Leonor looked summery in her outfit - a bertha top dress in Tael from Cherubina fashion brand and glossy sandals from her favorite shoe brand, Mint and Rose.

Infanta Sofia of Spain 

Her younger sister, Infanta Sofia, also rocked a summer fashion from Moises Nieto, a shimmery dress with ruched bodice. Their mum, Queen Letizia was in a complete summer mood in her black sleeveless dress from the clothing retail brand, H&M. 

Princess Leonor, who just completed her International Baccalaureate Diploma at UWC in Wales, UK, will begin her military training this coming August as part of her future role as Queen of Spain. It is expected to last for six months, then she will attend the university.
