His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf marked 50 years on the Swedish throne on September 15, 2023. The event was celebrated with festivities, military parade, royal opera performances, and a gala reception.Â
The Swedish royals were joined by the Scandinavian royals on the palace balcony to greet the cheering crowd.Â

Also in attendance were other Scandinavian heads of state, the presidents of Iceland and Finland, and also the government officials of Sweden.Â
The king, who was 27 years old when he inherited the throne from his grandfather in 1973, is now 77 years old and Sweden's longest serving monarch.
He is also the current second longest reigning monarch in Europe next to his first cousin, Queen Margrethe II, who celebrated her Golden Jubilee in January 2022.

But the sight that caught everyone's attention was Princess Estelle's green tulle dress. It was a repurposed gown of her mother, Crown Princess Victoria, who donned the dress twice to public events, in 2021 and 2022.
