Catherine, The Princess of Wales made a surprising announcement today, March 22, that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
In a video clip released by Kensington Palace and posted on the official social media accounts of the Prince and Princess of Wales, Kate admitted the tough times her family is currently undergoing.

She disclosed that following her abdominal surgery in January, her medical team said it was non-cancerous, however, in the follow-up tests after the operation, the medical team discovered the presence of cancer in her system. She did not reveal what type of cancer.
She added that she needed to recover from surgery before she could start “preventative chemotherapy”, as advised by her medical team.
She said that the cancer diagnosis came as a huge shock to her family. She and Prince William are doing everything they can to process and manage it privately for the sake of their young family.
“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery to start my treatment,” she said. “But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay".
She said having Prince William by her side gives her a sense of comfort, love, and support. She assured the public that she would get back to duty as soon as she recovered but for now, she needed the time and privacy to get the necessary treatment.
In January, during her abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace announced that Catherine won't be back to royal duty until after Easter, but with the recent diagnosis, it is now unlikely.
“My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery,” she said.
“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.”
With this surprising announcement, the Princess of Wales becomes the second senior working member of the British royal family who has been diagnosed with cancer after King Charles III.

Before King Charles III's announcement of his cancer diagnosis, his former sister-in-law, Sarah, Duchess of York, also revealed she's undergoing treatment for her skin cancer after she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.
This is unprecedented in the history of the British royal family having three members who are diagnosed with cancer. The Duchess of York, although already divorced from Prince Andrew, continues to be regarded as a member of the British royal family based on a letter patent issued by Queen Elizabeth II following the Yorks divorce in 1996.
