Swedish Royals Attend the 2024 Nobel Prize Ceremony and King's Dinner

Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia, together with their three children and in-laws attended the 2024 Nobel Prize Ceremony in Stockholm, this is the first time since 2019 that the King and Queen's children are in complete attendance at the ceremony.

Princess Madeleine last attended this event in 2019 since she and her husband, Christopher O'Neil were previously based in Florida, USA. This year the couple and their three children moved back to live in Sweden.

This year is Christopher O'Neil's first Nobel Prize attendance since 2017. He is a British-American financier and has businesses in London and the USA in the finance sector. He is also the only one among the King's in-laws who has no royal title.

O'Neil declined the King's offer in 2013 to become a royal since he would be obliged to become a Swedish citizen and give up his career as a financier. O'Neil chose to remain a commoner to continue his businesses.

On the following day, December 11, the King hosted the traditional white-tie reception for the Nobel Laureates. The royals once again attended the event wearing their finest court regalia.

Before this event, the Swedish royal family mourned the death of the King's second eldest sister, Princess Birgitta, who died at the age of 87, in Mallorca, Spain.
