Pope Francis was buried at St. Mary Maggiore Basilica in Rome, and his coffin was transported in a popemobile from the Vatican to his final resting place. A large crowd lined the streets in Rome to see the funeral cortege and to pay respect to the people's pope, who served the Catholic Church as its leader for 12 years, from his election on March 13, 2013, to his death on April 21, 2025.Â
Pope Francis was known for his humility, love for the poor and children, and his efforts to introduce reforms in the universal church to be relatable to the present world. He was also known for his crusade to spread peace and solidarity.

Â
He condemned wars, conflicts, and called on world leaders to unite to promote peace. He collaborated with the United Nations Organization on Sustainability and Climate Change Action. In February this year, just days before he was hospitalized due to pneumonia, he organized a World Summit for Children's Rights at the Vatican.
Catholic Church leaders are now preparing for the Conclave, which will begin on May 7, to elect the next pope. We are hoping that the next pope will continue the legacy of Pope Francis in many social issues.Â
