William and Catherine, the Prince and Princess of Wales, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when they are in Scotland, had a joint engagement to the Isles of Mull and Iona in the Inner Hebrides, Scotland, on April 29 to 30, 2025. The couple spent their 14th wedding anniversary on the Isle of Mull on April 29.
They began with a tour of Aros Hall, home to a community fridge which saves food from landfill, a charity shop, and a children's indoor play area. They also helped build a kitchen cabinet to house a community fridge for donated food.
The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay visited the nearby harbour to chat with makers and creators at Tobermory Producers Market and try local produce, including cheese and seaweed chutney. This was followed by a visit to a combined croft and restaurant on the west coast of Mull, where they learned about sustainable farming.
They also helped prepare a "community feast", cooking outdoors with croft owner Jeanette Lynn and her husband Jack Shaw. The princess learned how to cook charred haggis dumplings with whisky. Children from Ulva Primary School then joined the royal couple for the feast.
They spent the night of their wedding anniversary at Pennyghael Community Hall and on the island of Iona after taking the public ferry from Mull and meeting those who use and run the service.
On the second day of their visit, they took a boat trip between the Mull and Iona. They met with staff at the Fionnphort ferry terminal in Mull before boarding a ferry to Iona to meet with the community.
“Residents on the islands are highly dependent on the ferry routes, which are the only way to reach both islands and transport vital provisions back and forth,” Kensington Palace said in a statement. At the port, the couple was also photographed alongside actress and comedian Ruby Wax, who was apparently on holiday on the islands.
They also met rangers from the Mull and Iona Ranger Service at the Ardura Community Forest alongside families exploring the woodland. “A powerful reminder of the importance of protecting the environment and the role outdoor learning plays in building connection and care for nature". It was also announced by Kensington Palace that The Royal Foundation of Prince William will provide funding to continue the Ranger Service activities.
