Amidst Separation Rumors, The Crown Princess Couple of Sweden Released New Family Portrait

Sweden celebrated its  National Day on June 6, 2022. And to mark the occasion, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Prince Daniel released a new family portrait, with their children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.

The National Day of Sweden is celebrated every 6th of June in honor of two events: Gustav Vasa's election as king (June 6, 1523) and the establishment of Sweden's new constitution on June 6, 1809. It was first celebrated in 1916 and made a public holiday in 2004.

Also pictured during the special occasion, were the King and Queen, and Crown Princess Victoria's only brother, Prince Carl Philip, and his wife, Princess Sofia.

Sweden's National Costume

The royal ladies traditionally donned the national costume of Sweden called Sverigedräkten.  a bright yellow ensemble with blue embellishments - which represented Sweden's national flag.

Sverigedräkten is the name of the folk dress worn by Swedish women. The modern version of this national costume was designed in 1903 by Marta Palme. It was Queen Silvia who popularized the garment when she wore it in the 1983 celebration of the National Day.

King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia were surrounded by their two children, Prince Carl Philip and Crown Princess Victoria with their respective spouses

It became the official national costume of Sweden in 2004. The dress is typically a white long sleeve topped with a separate blue skirt with a yellow overskirt and embroidery. Married women can wear a headscarf.  Which is why we did not see Princess Estelle wearing a head scarf.

However, we have noticed that only the royal ladies wore Sweden's national costume, gentlemen in the Swedish Royal Family, including the king, opted to wear suits during the celebration.

Absent from the occasion was the king's youngest daughter, Princess Madeleine, who is now based in Florida, USA with her husband and three children.

The Separation Rumors Again

Once again, rumors about the state of the marriage of the Crown Princess and her husband continue to spread. Critics claimed the Crown Princess couple are just casual in public but in private there's a crack in their marriage. Detractors claiming Prince Daniel is a lot happier when he's alone doing public engagement. Such speculation was criticized by the Crown Princess couple's supporters as utterly ridiculous.

In February 2022 Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel were forced to issue a public statement about the state of their marriage denying rumors of separation. The statement reads: "It has come to our attention that there are widespread negative rumors about our private relationship. Allegations are being spread about betrayal in the relationship and an impending divorce. Normally, we do not comment on rumors and speculation. But in order to protect our family, we wish to make it clear, once and for all, that the rumors that are now spreading are completely unfounded", they signed the statement, Victoria and Daniel.

However, the split rumors continue to spread by the Swedish tabloids and people on Twitter, claiming all is not well with the couple. But we do not believe these rumors, seeing how comfortable and warm the Crown Princess couple towards each other.

Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling first met in 2001 when he became her personal trainer. Daniel, a gym owner, became close to the princess and eventually, they became lovers. Seven years later, he had moved into Drottningholm Palace's apartment to live with Crown Princess Victoria, much to the disapproval of her parents.

But the Crown Princess was determined to marry Daniel, so the king gave his approval in 2009. They got married on the 19th of June 2010 in a state wedding ceremony attended by foreign royals. Their first child, Princess Estelle, was born in 2012, followed by Prince Oscar in 2016.

It was also claimed in 2010 that the British royal court closely watched the reactions of the Swedish and the public to Crown Princess Victoria's choice of a husband because Prince William at that time was already in a long-term relationship with Kate Middleton.

The royal courtiers and the British royal family members were anxious about what would be the reaction of the public if Prince William would marry a non-aristocratic commoner. To date, the Duke of Cambridge is the first British heir to marry a non-aristocratic commoner.

Hopefully, ugly rumors about the state of the marriage of the Crown Princess couple would eventually die. They looked happy and at ease with each other.
