The Belgian royal family celebrated two important occasions on July 21, 2022. It was Belgium's National Holiday, and also King Philippe of the Belgians' 9th anniversary on the throne.

It was on July 21, 2013 when his father, King Albert II of Belgium, abdicated the throne for health reasons, making him the seventh King of Belgium since King Leopold I sat on the Belgian throne in 1831.

The Belgian royal house was founded by Queen Victoria's maternal uncle, King Leopold I, the widower of Princess Charlotte of Wales, only child of King George IV of the United Kingdom.

The death of Princess Charlotte paved the way for Queen Victoria's reign and King Leopold I's election as the first Belgian king.
