Just last week, we saw Princess Elisabeth, The Duchess of Brabant attended the National Day celebration in Belgium wearing a gorgeous red dress, now, here she is wearing commando gear, joining her comrades combing the forest with their heavy military equipment.
Belgium's future first Queen regnant is spending the whole month of July in the Military Summer Camp at the Royal Military School in Belgium.
The heir to the Belgian throne, 20, is currently taking a summer school break from England's Oxford University where she is studying a three-year course, Political Science and Philosophy.
As she prepares for her future role as Belgium's first Queen regnant, The Duchess of Brabant participates in the annual summer camp of the Royal Military School in Belgium, part of her military education.Â
In this year's summer camp, she is honing her skills in patrol techniques and leadership skills, including stress and fatigue resistance.
According to the Belgian Royal Palace:
"She (Princess Elisabeth) joined her promotion mates who are finishing their second academic year at the Royal Military School (KMS) with this camp. The students practiced and developed their patrol techniques and leadership skills during the camp.Â
"Like all students from her year, the Princess took charge of a section at certain times. They also learned flexible to changes and to stay motivated and alert in difficult circumstances".
In September 2020, Princess Elisabeth took part in the military initiation training at Elsenborn Belgian army camp in Butgenbach, following in the footsteps of her father, King Philippe, who attended the same military school from 1978 to 1981.
His Majesty, King Philippe, as the reigning Belgian Sovereign, is the Commander-in-Chief of the Belgian Armed Forces, in addition to being Head of State, two roles that Princess Elisabeth will also assume someday when she takes the throne.

It has been a tradition of the heir to the throne in all reigning royal houses to train in the military, in connection with their future role as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, however, in the past most heir-apparent were males.
So it's still strange to watch royal princesses trained in the military, especially donning commando gear. But we have to get used to it as most royal houses in Europe are already adopting the Absolute Primogeniture Law of succession, thus, more princesses will become future Queen regnant.Â
Princess Elisabeth is not the only female heir-apparent to undergo military training. The Crown Princess of Sweden, Victoria, had also had her military training in the past.
The military training of the future monarchs will equip them with the necessary grit, strength, courage, and how to cope with the physical and psychological effects of the future roles they will going to inherit someday.
