Fun in the blue sea! European royals find the watersports truly enjoyable and most of them have participated in the sailing race this summer season.Â
Two reigning European kings have competed in the sailing regatta this summer, King Harald V of Norway in July, and King Felipe VI of Spain just this month. Their Majesties were both Olympians who represented their respective countries in the sailing event (while still Crown Princes).
Towards the end of July this year, we saw the Duchess of Cambridge participate in the test sailing race with SailGP Team Great Britain in Plymouth ahead of the Grand Prix.
On August 19, 2022, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Crown Princess Mary visited the Danish SailGP Team, represented by Rockwool, in  Oceankaj, Copenhagen, to wish them good luck.
The royal couple decided to have a friendly duel by hopping in on a separate team. Crown Princess Mary, who is a native of Australia, joined the Australian Team, while Crown Prince Frederik joined the Danish team.

The Crown Prince couple, through the Royal Palace of Denmark's social media account, said: "With the ambition to become the world's most climate-friendly sports league, SailGP is holding a Grand Prix outside Copenhagen this weekend.Â
Earlier today we have the opportunity to compete against each other in a test sailing race with the Danish and Australian teams in the competition. Team Australia won. Nine nations will compete in the global sailing championship SailGP this weekend" - The Crown Prince couple

SailGP is an international sailing competition using high-performance F50 foiling catamarans, where teams compete across a season of multiple Grand Prix around the world. SailGP promotes sustainability in the ocean.
The F50 is the cutting-edge one-design catamaran used by all SailGP teams, leaving performances and results directly in the hands of world-class athletes.
The reigning champions are Tom Slingsby's Australia SailGP Team, which won their 2nd consecutive title in the 2021–22 SailGP.
According to the SailGP website, it is an adrenaline-fueled racing event where eight teams go head-to-head in iconic venues across the globe for a winner-takes-all prize.
