The Spanish royal family traditionally spends summer break in Palma de Mallorca in the Balearic islands on the eastern coast of Spain. Palma de Mallorca faces the western Mediterranean Sea, making it a stunning summer holiday destination.
The tradition of spending summer in Palma de Mallorca was started by King Juan Carlos when he took the throne in 1975 and continued by his son, King Felipe VI. The Spanish royals reside at the Marivent Palace when they are in Palma de Mallorca.
This summer, King Felipe VI traveled to Mallorca ahead of his wife and daughters, arriving on the island on July 18, 2022.Â

A visit to Cartoixa de Valldemossa
Usually, during summer break, King Felipe and his family will spend a day visiting nearby cultural landmarks and pilgrimage sites. Palma de Mallorca is known not only for beautiful beaches but for its well-preserved cultural sites too.
It's one of the relics of ancient Mallorca and was built in the 14th century as a palace by King James II of Mallorca for his son, King Sancho.Â
Towards the end of the 14th century, King Martin of Aragon, turned over all the Valldemossa possessions to Carthusian monks, and the palace of Cartoixa de Valldemossa was converted into a monastery.
Now, it is a monumental complex housing cultural artifacts and historical heritage of Palma de Mallorca. It is located just 19 kilometers from Palma.
Royal Family's OOTD during the visit
For their first cultural tour visit to Mallorca for this summer, the Spanish royals were dressed in cool summer outfits.
For their OOTD during a visit to Cartoixa de Valldemossa, the royal family championed local brands, such as Zara, Polin et Moi, Sfera, and Espardenyes Torres. And both wore the popular summer footwear, espadrilles!Â
Kin Felipe donned powder blue long sleeves and blue jeans, while his wife, Queen Letizia donned a flowing printed skirt from Pablo Erroz, a forest green sleeveless, and a pair of flat espadrilles from Espardenyes Torres, a Spanish fashion brand based in Ibiza, Spain.
The royal sisters are more summery in their outfit. Princess Leonor donned a cute white embroidery mini dress from a Spanish clothing brand, Sfera, which she paired with her Sardinia canvas espadrille wedges from Mint and Rose.
Her younger sister, Infanta Leonor, donned a Zara pink mini dress and a pair of leather espadrilles from Polin et Moi, another go-to Spanish brand of the Spanish royals.
In the past during the reign of King Juan Carlos, he allowed photographers to take photos of his family them outside Marivent Palace, however, it was discontinued by King Felipe VI and only allowed photographers to take photos of his family when they are visiting cultural sites in the island.
So we have not seen members of the Spanish royal family, such as Infantas Elena and Cristina, and Queen Sofia, being publicly photographed with King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and their daughters during summer holiday in Palma de Mallorca.Â
