Princess Martha Louise of Norway steps back from royal role

Princess Martha Louise of Norway, the eldest child among the two children of Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway announced that she decided to step back from her role to focus on her personal activities.

The announcement was made by the Royal House of Norway, stating that the only daughter of the King and Queen will no longer perform public duties on behalf of the Royal House.

In contrast to earlier speculation that King Harald V might strip his only daughter of the title of princess, the king decided to retain the title. She is still Her Highness Princess Martha Louise of Norway.

The only difference is that the princess will no longer join the Norwegian royal family in public events nor represent the royal house in any public gatherings or royal events.

Princess Martha Louise was previously married to Norwegian author, Ari Behn, however, they got divorced in 2017. Behn committed suicide on Christmas day, 2019. They shared three daughters together.

In May 2019, Princess Martha Louise confirmed she was dating an American Shaman (Shamanism is a religious practice that involves a belief in a spirit world), Durek Verrett.

The relationship has been widely criticized in Norway, with some members of the media calling Durek Verrett a con artist.

Durek Verrett attracted further controversies when he said he was using a healing amulet to fight COVID-19. And that he was a “hybrid species of reptilian.”

Despite the controversies and criticism that the romance has generated, Princess Martha Louise was unconcerned, for her, she finally found her true "soulmate".

The 51-year-old princess and Durek Verrett announced their engagement in June this year. Durek and Princess Martha Louise shared the same belief in supernatural things, astrology, the power of the stars, and what's beyond in the universe. They also both promote spiritual healing.

Princess Martha Louise's decision to step back from her royal role, many believed, has something to do with her relationship with Durek Verrett and to protect the royal family from further scandals and controversies. No announcement yet when they will get married.
