Princess Leonor's Flag Oath Ceremony Attended by Their Majesties

Leonor, The Princess of Asturias, participated in the Flag Swearing Ceremony in General Military Academy where she's currently undergoing a military training.

The Flag Swearing Ceremony is part of the Flag Oath Act which members of the Spanish Armed Forces are expected to obey. It's the ceremony where soldiers and military trainees swear to defend Spain. The highlight of the ceremony is kissing the flag.

The flag traditionally used during the Flag Swearing Ceremony in General Military Academy of Spain has a royal connection dating back to the 19th century.

It was commissioned by Queen Maria Cristina (born Archduchess Maria Cristina of Austria), the wife of King Alfonso XII of Spain and was delivered to the General Military Academy in 1886.

Leonor's parents, Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain attended the Flag Swearing Ceremony with the rest of the cadets families.

Their Majesties arrive in General Military Academy 

King Felipe VI, in his capacity as Spain's Head of State and Commander-in-chief of the Spanish Armed Forces, presided over the ceremony. All cadets, including his daughter and heir presumptive, gave him a salute. 

At only 17 years old, The Princess of Asturias looked so mature in her age as she begin performing her duties to the nation, tasks expected from her as Spain's future Queen regnant. 

On October 30, Princess Leonor will turn 18, which marks the start of her new life as a working Spanish royal.

Unlike other reigning royal houses in Europe, the Spanish royal family doesn't have any other working royals, except King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, in the official capacity. 

The reasons of no Spanish working royals are cutting the expenses of the royal family and avoid dragging the Spanish Royal House into scandal in case the working royals will get involve in controversies like what happened to Infanta Cristina years back.
