The Thai King and Queen were accorded a welcome fit for royalty, with Bhutan's citizens coming together to greet their arrival. Schoolchildren lined the route from Paro, waving flags and offering flowers, while cultural performances were held along the way to honour the visiting royals.
The Thai royal couple were formally received at Tashichhodzong, complete with a full military parade, followed by an Audience with the Bhutan King and Queen. King Jigme's father, King Jigme Singye, who abdicated the throne in 2006, also attended the event.
The Bhutanese people prepared performances such as traditional dance and offerings. The Thai King and Queen were also treated to special receptions, cultural and local custom practices, and visits to different landmarks in Bhutan including the museum and temples. The two kingdoms are predominantly Buddhist.Â
