Royal Fashion Twinning Moments: 21 Times Royals Wore The Same Exact Dress


We often spotted women from royalty stepping out in public wearing the same outfits, and most often than not, from the same designers. What's the reason behind their fashion twinning? 

According to fashion experts, royals occasionally work with the same fashion designers and couturiers. They also have a team of royal wardrobe specialists that often coordinate with famous brands/designers, so no wonder royal ladies are often spotted wearing the same outfits.

Here are most popular royal twinning moments. Who wore it best?

1. Beulah London Ahana Dress - On June 16, 2020, Crown Princess Mary wore the Beulah London 'Ahana' dress in beige to attend a museum exhibition of arts and crafts made by her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

The dress is crafted from wool crepe, featuring a full skirt and tailored bodice. The Duchess of Cambridge wore the same dress to Wimbledon on Sunday July 11, 2021, however her version is blush pink.

2. Vampire's Wife Shimmering Green - Princess Beatrice and Duchess of Cambridge wore similar emerald dresses from The Vampire's Wife. Princess Beatrice was first to wear this dress while attending the Dior Sessions book launch after-party on October 1, 2019 in London.

On March 3, 2020, Kate wore the dress during a visit to Ireland with Prince William. The Cambridges were at Guinness Storehouse’s Gravity Bar in Dublin during the first day of their Ireland visit just before the pandemic in 2020. She wore the dress again in 2021 during an official portrait session with Prince William.

3. Stella McCartney White Gown - This Grecian style dress was first spotted on Princess Charlene of Monaco when she walked the red carpet with Prince Albert at Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony, February 27, 2018.

Queen Maxima of The Netherlands wore the same dress during an annual gala dinner for the Diplomatic Corps on April 9, 2019 in Amsterdam, and again during a state visit in Austria this year.

4. Cream Hugo Boss Dress - Queen Letizia of Spain and Princess Sofia of Sweden had an accidental twinning moment with this dress in 2017. This cream Hugo Boss dress has a pleated skirt and a keyhole neckline design.

Princess Sofia of Sweden wore it during an appearance with the Swedish royal family at Stockholm's Royal Palace to attend the Te Deum Thanksgiving Service.

While Queen Letizia of Spain wore the dress when she attended an event in Madrid with King Felipe VI at the Royal Spanish Academy on June 22, 2017. The Spanish Queen consort restyled the dress by wearing a belt.

5. Red Raquel Diniz ensemble - This gorgeous red dress had a royal twining moment when the two Crown Princesses wore it.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark wore the dress during an appearance at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen on August 28, 2018. She repeated it on April 30, 2022, for the Confirmation of her daughter, Princess Isabella.

While Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway wore the dress at the opening of the exhibition "Towards the Forest—Knausgaard on Munch" in Oslo, Norway in May 2017.

6. Yahvi Olive Beulah London Dress - The Duchess of Cambridge first wore this Beulah London dress to the launch of a new national support line at Family Action charity event on January 22, 2019 in Lewisham, England.

In September 2020, Crown Princess Mary wore an updated version of the dress to open a new university campus in Horsens, in Demark. On Mary's dress, the split is open and the sleeves slightly shorter than the dress worn by Kate.

7. L.K Bennett Green Dress - Princess Sofia of Sweden wore this frock in June 2018 while attending the Sophiahemmet University's graduation ceremony in Stockholm.

8. Giambattista Valli number - Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived at the Tilburg Theater for the Kingsday concert on April 4, 2017 wearing this black floral dress.

While Princess Madeleine of Sweden wore the same dress to the World Childhood Foundation Thank You Gala on October 3, 2018 in New York City.

9. White Pantsuits - Same style but from different designers. Queen Letizia donned this power statement white pantsuits from Carolina Herrera during the NATO Summit in Madrid, Spain this year.

While The  Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted wearing many times her own version of white pantsuits from Alexander McQueen.

She first wore it during her Caribbean royal tour with Prince William this year. And lately, during an appearance in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this month.

10. Jenny Packham Powder Blue Dress - Princess Madeleine of Sweden wore this dress while pregnant with her first child. She was with her husband, Christopher O'Neill, attending the New York Green Summit and royal gala award dinner in October 2013.

While Princess Alexandra Of Luxembourg wore this dress to the royal wedding of her older brother, Prince Felix, to Claire Lademacher, in September 2013 at Saint-Maximin-La-Sainte-Baume, in France.

11. Peach Lacey Elie Saab Dress - Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden chose to wear this gorgeous ensemble from Elie Saab to attend the christening of her nephew, Prince Alexander, on September 9, 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Queen Maxima of The Netherlands also wore the same dress during a visit to Champalimaud Centre in Portugal with King Willem-Alexander, on October 11, 2017. 

12. H&M Coral Silk Dress - Crown Princess Mary of Denmark loved this dress so much she wore it three times in 2019!

She was first spotted wearing this dress at the launch of Copenhagen's Fashion Summit on May 15, 2019. Then in August at an event in Copenhagen and in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria has also been pictured in the stylish number twice in 2019. H&M, a Swedish company, is the second largest clothing retailer in the world.

13. Shalini Dress from Beulah London - Crown Princess Mary of Denmark was first spotted wearing this dress in December, 2019. She wore it to attend an event during her short visit to Indonesia for the United Nations and Danish government.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore this dress in 2020 to meet with NHS workers in Norfolk. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated the 72nd anniversary of the National Health Service with a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at King's Lynn, near their Norfolk home.

14. Emilia Wickstead Appliqué Dress - Both Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, and Princess Beatrice donned this dress just a year apart. The Countess of Wessex wore the dress during the first day of Royal Ascot in 2018.

A year later, Princess Beatrice of York rocked the dress to Trooping The Colour ceremony in June 2019.  This Emilia Wickstead's design features black appliqué detailing across the shoulders and arms.

15. Red Leather Boss Pencil Skirt - Queen Letizia of Spain and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex twinned with this chic red leather BOSS pencil skirt – on the same day. And they also wore the same color of shoes!

The Duchess of Sussex was spotted wearing with this pencil skirt while she was still a working royal, attending a roundtable discussion for the One Young World summit in October 2019. Queen Letizia wore the same piece for a meeting in Seoul, South Korea.

16. Ahana Chambre Beulah London - Princess Beatrice and Lady Frederick Windsor (Sophie Winkleman) had the same dress in mind when they both attended the National Thanksgiving Church Service at St. Paul's Cathedral in June this year. For they both wore the same dress from the same designer, although in different colors!

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral in London on June 3, 2022, was attended by members of the British royal family, and the two Windsor women stepped out twinning this Beulah London ensemble. Princess Beatrice opted for a blue version of the dress, while Lady Frederick wore the hot pink version.

17. Malene Birger maternity coat - This maternity coat dress is a prize catch for royal pregnant women due to its stylish cut and glamorous design. No wonder both the Duchess of Cambridge and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark were both taken with this ensemble during their respective pregnancies.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore the dress while pregnant with Prince George. And while she accompanied Prince Philip and The Queen during a visit to Baker Street underground station in March 2013.

Denmark's Crown Princess Mary first wore this beautiful maternity coat dress while she was pregnant with her second child, Princess Isabella, in 2007.

18. Missoni multicolor belted coat dress - Crown Princess Mary of Denmark wore this coat ensemble at the opening of the business forum in Saudi Arabia in February 2016.

While Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands, sister-in-law of King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, wore the dress while attending the King's Day to celebrate her brother-in-law's birthday on April 27, 2016 in Zwolle, Netherlands.

19. Vilshenko dress - Princess Charlene of Monaco wore this summery dress at Monaco's traditional end-of-summer picnic in September of 2016.

While Crown Princess Mary of Denmark wore the same dress a year later, while attending a business seminar at Hotel Gajoen Tokyo in October 2017.

20. Floral Zimmermann Dress - At least three royal ladies were spotted wearing this blush pink dress from Zimmermann. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark wore this dress on two occasions, first in 2019 while attending the confirmation of her goddaughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway. Second, while attending the civil wedding ceremony of Prince Gustav and Carina Axelsson, in June this year.

Princess Claire of Luxembourg was spotted wearing this Zimmermann dress in May 2019 while attending Te Deum in Luxembourg. While the Queen's granddaughter, Zara Tindall, wore the dress during the Queen's Jubilee Pageant in London, June 2022.

21. Sandro's All-Over Print Dress - Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden attended a meeting with the World Health Organization in Stockholm on April 10, 2019 wearing this dress,

Queen Letizia wore the same dress while attending an event in Madrid on May 20, 2019. The two royal ladies however, created their own style by wearing different belts to accessorize the dress.

But the most amusing and awkward moment of accidental twinning happened in Queen Letizia's life when she attended an event wearing the same Mango dress as the attendee.
