The secret to the Queen's Toned Physique

Queen Letizia's toned muscles and slim physique have been the favorite topic of discussion among royal fans. The Queen also made sure she donned outfits that enhanced her slim figure and athletic muscles.

So how does she stay in a good shape?

Apart from her favorite fitness routine - triceps dip on the wall and Iyengar yoga, Queen Letizia also follows both Perricone and Mediterranean diets.

Perricone and Mediterranean Diets

During a visit to Torrejoncillos school in Cáceres, Spain, King Felipe VI's wife revealed her favorite foods which include vegetables, fruit, salads, and purées, which are part of the Perricone and Mediterranean diets she followed.

The Mediterranean diet is composed of seafood, whole meals, fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and lean meat, It has been named "one of the healthiest diets on the planet" by many nutritionists, including Dr. Michael Mosley.

Meanwhile, the Perricone diet, named after Dr. Nicholas Perricone, is a diet that consists of protein-rich foods, non-starchy vegetables, fruits, nuts, yogurt, olive oil, and wholegrains - similar, therefore, to the Mediterranean diet.

According to an article in the Healthline, the Perricone Diet is a popular 28-day eating plan said to improve health by lowering inflammation and reducing signs of aging. The diet focuses on nutrient-dense foods and encourages adding a source of protein to meals and snacks.

Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a dermatologist who has written several books about skincare, weight loss, and wellness, claims that maintaining a healthy diet promotes skin health and prevents signs of aging.

His 28-day program, officially called Dr. Perricone’s 28-Day Anti-Inflammatory Diet, promises to improve mental clarity, increase energy levels, and boost overall physical health through diet, supplements, exercise, and an expensive skin care regimen.

The diet is designed to reduce chronic inflammation by eliminating bread, fried foods, fruit juice, pasta, snack foods, soda, and foods high in added sugar while increasing your intake of foods rich in protein and antioxidants.

Drinks to Avoid

Apart from the Perricone and Mediterranean diets, another health routine Queen Letizia has been following is to avoid sugar. She doesn't often touch ready meals, frozen foods, or pizzas.

She is also very disciplined when it comes to drinks. Letizia prefers to completely avoid coffee, fizzy and soft drinks, and alcohol.

A royal source said: "She doesn't really drink alcohol to be honest, which is sometimes a problem for the toasts. King Felipe VI, however, is a wine connoisseur and has a private wine cellar in the palace."

Avoiding alcohol is an effective weight loss method because liquors, even wine with just 5% ABV, are usually high in calories. Alcohol, in fact, is one of the sources of calories.

Regular Workout at the Palace

One former trainer of Queen Letizia revealed that she actually woke up early and does her jogging routine at seven in the morning, around Zarzuela Palace. She faithfully does setups, triceps dip on the wall, and Iyengar yoga.

According to a royal aide, if Queen Letizia exercises, "She does it 100 percent. If she practices yoga, she wouldn't stop until she knows as much as her instructor. She is like that with everything, with her body too. She watches what she eats to the extreme."

Another close friend shared the Queen's fitness regime, explaining that the King also joins in when he is around.

They said: "The queen practices weight exercises every other day. She always recommends them when someone asks her. If the king is free, he would join her gym routine, too."
